The focus of this Issue is the UK’s counter-radicalisation programme ‘Prevent’. As a number of articles in this Issue explain, this policy is part of CONTEST, the UK government’s counter-terrorism strategy.

We welcome you to the inaugural issue of Feminist Dissent. For many of us, it is the fruition of a long journey of struggle and dissent against fundamentalism and racism in a new global capitalist order where gender is increasingly instrumentalised to sustain power. But more importantly, Feminist Dissent is a new beginning.
